Assessment in Academic Departments

Assessment in Academic Departments

Information & Resources

Annual Assessment Reporting

Each academic department submits an Annual Assessment Report by May 31 summarizing findings, actions, and supporting evidence for student learning outcomes. This report documents progress toward improvement and compliance with SACSCOC Standard 8.2.a.

Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs)

Departments maintain 4–6 measurable SLOs aligned with program goals and disciplinary standards. Each outcome should be specific, observable, and assessed at least once within a three-year cycle.

Assessment Resources & Templates

Access templates, rubrics, and guidance documents that simplify each stage of the assessment process—from selecting measures to interpreting results and closing the loop. These resources support consistent, data-driven improvement across all departments.

Timeline, Deadlines & Support

Assessment at Berea follows a predictable annual rhythm: departments review outcomes in early fall, collect and analyze evidence throughout the year, and submit reports each spring. Questions about assessment design, reporting, or feedback can be directed to the Office of Institutional Effectiveness and Accreditation for individualized consultations and workshops.
